Nokian Nordman RS2

Winter tires, like the Nordman 5 7 SX2, were developed specifically for use in the difficult conditions of the Arctic. The model is characterized by:

  • handling and grip on icy and snowy surfaces with a set of technological solutions and modern materials in the manufacture;
  • efficiency at low temperatures, due to the rubber compound containing cryosilane-based silica;
  • short cut length stopping distance thanks to the lamellas in the shoulder blocks;
  • drying the road surface by sucking water into drop-shaped cavities;
  • increased resistance to slashplanning created by the serrations on the side surfaces of the shoulder blocks;
  • improved traction with slippery winter surfaces, obtained by increasing the density of the sipes.

Car owners claim that tires can not cope with slush and ice, especially with deep snow. There is poor braking and an uncertain start on ice.

Tires Nokian Hakapelita 8

In our country, this rubber from a Finnish manufacturer is purchased by owners of off-road vehicles and crossovers. Pros:

  • excellent grip on snowy and icy surfaces, which is facilitated by an optimized V-shaped tread design with a symmetrically directional pattern;
  • increased directional stability and efficiency during braking and acceleration due to the wide central rib having triangular edges;
  • improved traction on icy surfaces due to the large number of multi-directional S-shaped sipes and the use of a four-sided stud.

Car owners consider the Nokian Hakkapeliitta 8 tires to be expensive and noisy, even buzzing on clean asphalt, they report the loss of studs and uncertain braking on asphalt.

Nokian Hakka Green 2

Hakka Green summer tires are created by Finnish tire manufacturers using developments and technical solutions that are well manifested on other types of rubber. Pros:

  • Significantly improved traction stability at high speeds and reduced fuel consumption, made possible due to the low weight and increased rigidity of the breaker;
  • resistance to aquaplaning due to transverse grooves in the shoulder areas of a feather shape, and in the longitudinal ones, the inner walls are curved;
  • reduced level of noise and low-frequency vibrations, which are generated by the steel cord, due to an additional layer in the tire sidewalls.

Judging by the reviews of motorists, Nokian Hakka Green 2 tires are noisy, have a low level of wear resistance, have soft sidewall not puncture resistant.

Nokian Hakkapeliitta 9 SUV

The model is focused on equipping powerful crossovers and SUVs. According to the manufacturer, these tires:

  • demonstrate ease of overcoming icy areas, which is due to innovative studding, including several types of studs;
  • created on the basis of the Hakkapeliitta 7 model, thus obtaining all its best qualities;
  • create comfortable driving conditions due to the Eco Stud System, which suppresses noise and compensates for vibrations;
  • have excellent control, which was caused by an effective self-cleaning system and the presence of self-locking sipes, coupled with brake boosters.

From the point of view of vehicle owners, the Hakkapeliitta 9 SUV rubber demonstrates rollability on asphalt, floats in slush and has a very soft sidewall.

Nokian Hakka Blue 2

Finnish manufacturer summer tires of this brand positions them as a commercially successful product that combines a relatively low price with sufficient performance and demonstrates:

  • optimal elasticity for a wide temperature range due to the new compound;
  • reduced tread heating with reduced wear and rolling resistance due to the addition of pine oil to the composition;
  • reduced specific pressure on the surface area, its uniform distribution, increased resource, improved handling and good grip due to increased breaker stiffness and optimization of the tread profile.

Among the disadvantages of Hakka Blue 2 tires, motorists highlight increased wear.

It is believed that there is no more room for improvement in the production of tires, but the Finns from Nokian Tires are constantly finding new reserves. For example, their latest product - Nokian Hakkapeliitta 9 - came out about six months after its predecessor, the G8, and was able to surpass it in all respects. The Hakka 9 is designed around the principle of functional studding, also referred to as hybrid. Its essence lies in the use of studs of two varieties, which guarantee the stable behavior of the tire in various conditions.

Of course, Finnish craftsmen modernize their products in a comprehensive way. In particular, Hakka 9 tires are distinguished by an improved rubber composition and a modified tread pattern. Nevertheless, it is in the field of studding that the Nokian developers have made the main breakthrough.

Nokian Hakka 9: division of responsibility

The tire "nine" is divided into two zones. The central part of the tread consists of spikes equipped with a core of considerable width in the longitudinal direction. The edge of each has a beveled shape, which gives the spike the ability to go deeper into the ice and provide the car with increased grip on the surface. The configuration of these elements in the tread increases the quality of grip both during acceleration and braking. The secret is that the momentum in contact with the road is smeared over a larger surface than standard spikes.

In the shoulder areas of the product on the sides of the product there are spikes in the form of a trefoil. Spikes of this type are equipped with pins made of carbide materials, which increase their resistance to lateral loads. Now, when turning the side, the tires also come into contact with a larger area of the road than usual. This improves traction when maneuvering and on slippery surfaces.

It's curious! Previously, two types of studding were used only on sports cars. And only Nokian Tires brought this technology to the average consumer, bringing such tires to the market, while designed for standard cars.

Nokian Hakka 9: improved road handling

The Eco Stud concept was created to enhance the Hakka 9 tire's interaction with the road. The cushioning layer of the same name is designed to reduce the intensity when the stud comes into contact with the canvas. The beveled stud components, thanks to the use of Eco Stud, act on a larger surface of the road, which reduces the specific load on the pavement. Similarly, the air layer in the flange reduces the influence of the route on the stud and vice versa.
It is important! Studs designed with the Eco Stud concept are not only gentle on the road surface, but also produce less noise, which means more comfortable ride for the driver and passengers.

Nokian Hakka 9: efficient siping

Both lamellas and drainage channels play a significant role. Curly sipes significantly increase the handling of the tire. Thanks to the skillful siping of the Hakka 9, the car responds noticeably better to the steering wheel on a wet track.

It is beautiful! And these lamellas give the tread an attractive appearance.

Nokian Hakka 9: updated rubber compound

Advanced rubber includes rubber as a base, rapeseed oil, which is responsible for the overall elasticity of the product, silica (that is, a silicon compound) that imparts rigidity, as well as the modern biomaterial Green Elasto Pro. The latter component makes it possible for the tire to maintain elasticity, even if the temperature drops significantly below zero.

Nokian Hakka 9: assortment

There are a total of 52 Hakka 9 tire sizes on the market, ranging from 14 to 20 inches. The main part of the tires of each size is suitable for operation in the maximum load mode (typical for most Russian roads), as evidenced by the index XL assigned to them.

In comparative tests of Autoreview for the last couple of years, the Nokian Hakkapeliitta 8 studded tires have consistently become the best winter tires. And I managed to get acquainted with their successors Hakkapeliitta 9 even before the official premiere.

I assumed that the Finnish tire manufacturers would glue the spikes on the new model, as the creators of the Continental IceContact 2 tires did. But the Finns refused the hot vulcanization technology of the spikes: it was expensive. They chose a different path: they used studding with two types of spikes. Yes, according to this scheme, special sports tires sometimes stud, but in serial “civilian” tires, double studding is used for the first time.

Of course, in the “nine” both the tread pattern and the composition of the rubber compound have undergone changes. However, the main innovation is in the studding. In the middle part of the tread there are studs with a transversely oriented carbide insert: these work effectively in the longitudinal direction and are responsible for acceleration and braking on ice. And on the sides there are spikes in the form of a trefoil: they are responsible for the transverse grip properties and handling performance on ice. At the same time, the total number of studs, compared to the previous model, even decreased: in 16-inch tires there are now 172 of them against the previous 190.

Simultaneously with tires for conventional cars a modification of the “nine” for crossovers and SUVs enters the market. In addition to the size range, it is distinguished by additional bridges connecting the shoulder blocks of the tread, a different rubber composition and a stronger carcass reinforced with aramid. Moreover, in tires with the SUV index, the studs are more powerful, their body is a millimeter higher. It was these tires of dimension 215/65 R16 that took part in our comparative test by car Renault Captur. Opponents of the new model Hakkapeliitta 9 were 13 studded competitors, among which are presented both relatively inexpensive products of domestic tire manufacturers and imported top models. An interesting detail: the offset measured by us, that is, the protrusion of the spikes above the tread surface, for new Nokian tires Hakkapeliitta 9 turned out to be very modest - an average of 1.1 mm. But after the break-in, the spikes took on a more aggressive position - 1.5 mm, that is, exactly along the upper limit of compliance with the Russian technical regulations(1.2±0.3 mm).

The first test results show that the Nokian Hakkapeliitta 9 outperforms the competition in terms of traction on ice. However, let's not get ahead of ourselves: in addition to tests on ice, tests on rolled and freshly fallen snow and on asphalt also count. The work has not yet been completed, and we will present the final conclusions to the judgment of the readers of the Autoreview and the viewers of our YouTube channel in early autumn, when mass sales of Nokian Hakkapeliitta 9 tires begin. including at the Russian Nokian Tires plant near St. Petersburg) has already started, and the first batches of new tires have begun to be shipped to dealers.

Nokian Hakkapeliitta 9 – winter tire for cars, which has a number of innovative technologies, among which its studding is in the first place.

Hybrid spike system

The company's engineers used several types of spikes, some of which are located in the central zone, and the second - in the shoulder. It is the differences in the studs that made it possible to optimize the longitudinal and transverse forces at various climatic conditions. This has found its expression in maintaining the controllability of the car even in extreme conditions.

Eco Stud 9

To reduce the impact of studs on the tire itself, an improved Eco Stud 9 technology was used, which consists in placing an air cushion under each stud (and there are 190 of them here). In addition, the presence of beveled edges of the core of each stud allows you to optimize the load on it, which has a positive effect on the overall impact on the tire. Thus, a long service life of the stud is achieved with minimal loss of its elements during operation.

Green Elasto Proof

Finnish developers have also improved the composition of the rubber compound, which, in addition to silica, rapeseed oil and natural rubber, also includes a special Green Elasto Proof additive. This component is responsible for the elasticity properties of the tire under various temperature conditions, "adjusting" the compound and ensuring that the grip properties are maintained on any surface.

V-type protector

The presence of such a tread in combination with a drainage system, represented by various sipes, grooves and channels, ensures quick self-cleaning and maintaining controllability. vehicle under any conditions.
