New Volvo v60 cross country. New Volvo V60 Cross Country. Volvo V60 cars in stock

The all-new Volvo V60 Cross Country debuted at a special event on 25 September 2018. Its world presentation could be seen at the International Paris Motor Show of the same year. In fact, the model is a full-fledged second generation, not a restyling. The start of sales in the countries of the old world is scheduled for early 2019, and the first cars should reach the domestic market in the spring of the same year. It is not difficult to distinguish such a version from the usual station wagon of the 60th series. First of all, a noticeably increased ground clearance and a classic black crossover body kit catches the eye. On the thresholds, bumpers and wheel arches there are small protective unpainted plastic linings. Behind you can see an additional protective chrome trim and modified exhaust pipes. On this model, they are two angular "double-barreled". Otherwise, the car has retained the refined and laconic design of the original model.

Dimensions

Volvo B60 Cross Country is a mid-size five-door station wagon with off-road capability. Its overall dimensions are: length 4784 mm, width 1850 mm, height 1499 mm, and a wheelbase of 2874 mm. Ground clearance has been increased by 75mm over the regular version to a whopping 210mm, which is pretty solid by the standards of this class. The car is based on a proprietary SPA platform with a completely independent architecture. In front are two transverse arm, and behind it is a multi-link. By default, coil springs and conventional telescopic shock absorbers are installed in a circle. For an additional fee, you can order a pneumatic system and adaptive racks. Trunk size is impressive. With the backs of the second row of seats raised and loaded under the top shelf, the station wagon provides up to 529 liters of free space. If you donate the rear sofa, you can get up to 1441 liters.

Specifications

In the domestic market, the car is sold exclusively with one set of units. The Volvo V60 Cross Country is powered by a two-liter inline turbocharged T5 four. Thanks to an advanced boost system and direct fuel injection, it produces 250 horsepower at 5500 rpm and 350 Nm of thrust from 1800 to 4800 rpm. crankshaft per minute. As a gearbox, a classic eight-band hydromechanical automatic machine with eight gears is used. The drive is exceptionally complete. Acceleration from zero to hundreds will take 6.8 seconds, and the high-speed ceiling is electronically limited at around 250 kilometers per hour.

Equipment

In Russian dealer centers, The Volvo V60 Cross Country is available exclusively in the Plus package. It, by default, includes front side and side airbags, curtains, traction control and anti-lock systems coupled with ESP, leather trim, LED headlights, as well as light and rain sensors. Options such as the system are available for an additional fee. automatic parking, laminated side windows, surround view system and panoramic roof.

Station wagons, nicknamed "cars" and even "sheds", in the Russian market, once or twice, and counted. The more curious is the novelty - a cross-country model arguing with crossovers

The “60th” line of Volvo cars has taken an intermediate position between the “junior” models of the 40th series and the “70s” belonging to the E-class. There are two all-wheel drive variants in this family: the S60 sedan and the V60 station wagon with the Cross Country prefix. A station wagon visited our test

Cross-country station wagons - goods on automotive market rare. And to be even more precise, they can be counted on the fingers. One of the latest innovations in this "piece" segment was the Volvo V60 Cross Country

It made us remember about such a class of car as all-wheel drive elevated station wagons. After all, if Skoda had not been in an expensive top-end configuration, it would have easily done any comparable crossover in terms of a lot of qualities. But what if you take a similar car from the premium class, where the price is not so decisive for demand? It's decided, we're driving a Volvo V60 Cross Country to a country where similar cars extremely popular - in Finland.

Immediately it is worth dealing with reality and marketing. The fact is that the Volvo 60 series - either a sedan or a station wagon - is positioned by the brand itself in Russia as a business class car, which is why the Cross Country modification falls into class D, which means it competes with models such as Subaru outback, Volkswagen Passat Alltrack and, in fact, the departed Volvo XC70. However, it is obvious that the V60 is noticeably smaller than the named models. What's more, V60 is smaller than the same Skoda Octavia Scout. So to be honest, of course, the V60 Cross Country pulls a maximum of the C + class, which is why the assessments of the station wagon's functionality fluctuate noticeably.

The mass weekly "pilgrimage" of Petersburgers to the neighboring Scandinavian country for fish, as well as "real European" Fairy and toilet paper ended with the collapse of the ruble. At the border - both on Saturday morning and back on Sunday evening - there is a queue of cars for 15-20 minutes at most, instead of the previous two or three hours.

One way or another, an off-road outfit suits almost any car, and the Volvo V60 is no exception. The body kit noticeably added masculinity and aggression to the clean lines of streamlined shapes. One thing though: the body kit is mostly decorative - bumper covers and sills are flavored with chrome and silver decorations, so only fender linings and, of course, increased ground clearance provide real protection. The Swedes did not become greedy and raised the V60 by a good 65 mm, getting the final figure as much as 201 mm - not even a crossover, but quite an off-road clearance.

Surprisingly, the Cross Country modification also went to the S60 sedan. To be honest, such a car looks strange both externally and functionally. Apparently because we have not seen a single car driving on the roads either in Russia or even in Europe.

One of the main advantages of the interior of any Volvo is authenticity. If the architecture of the arrangement of all elements is generally standard, then the visual embodiment of the Swedes turned out very well. A non-trivial floating center console, appropriate asymmetry and a very elegant instrument panel. All this is backed up by high-quality finishes with pleasant-to-touch fittings - here, for whatever reason, premium class. Separate non-standard solutions, of course, affect ergonomics, or rather, the time it takes to get used to controlling secondary functions - for example, the climate or steering column levers.

The instrument panel, according to the fashionable tradition, at Volvo is a color screen, but not like everyone else, but divided into three parts. Depending on the selected mode, the design and purpose of the segments changes: the most spectacular is the fiery Performance.

Armchairs in the Volvo V60 Cross Country, despite the resemblance, are of several types. Those that we have do not have such a pronounced landing depth and a distinct relief, however, in general, this has little effect on overall convenience, especially with a full range of electrical adjustments. Want a strong sporty hug? You will have to refer to the list of options.

But the back sofa is a Scandinavian keeper of family values. Not only is the backrest conveniently divided and folded into three parts, but also children's boosters are built into the pillows, not to mention the presence of almost all additional benefits, such as sockets, holders and airflow deflectors. However, there is not much space and space in the back - two adults, of course, will fit, but not tall and without a third passenger - not a D-class at all.

A well-finished trunk has an average volume of 430 liters and a stowaway in the underground. There are not enough pockets, compartments and other "German" amenities.

How to make a small family station wagon interesting car for the driver? That's right, plug in a powerful motor and adjust the controls! With the first at Volvo for sure full order, since for many years the company has been relying not on strangled low-volume "petrols", but on juicy and high-torque diesel engines. We completely agree with this approach!

A 2.4-liter unit with a capacity of 190 "horses" and a moment of as much as 420 "Newtons" allows a lot. First of all, regardless of the load, confidently fulfill the desires of the right leg - the car pulls perfectly. But for some reason, the pedal has to be pressed harder than desired even on an unloaded car - I remember that on a long-standing test of the XC60 with the same engine, the crossover flew forward like a high-speed yacht picked up by a fair wind. The station wagon is rushing with the pressure of a combat boat. I suppose they tweaked the eco-settings again! Fortunately, there is a tonic sport mode, which, however, is not very humane for diesel fuel - the consumption on the highway by the car is around 8-9 liters per "hundred".

Finns are famous collectors of oldtimers, in particular American ones. So you can easily meet on the roads a Mustang of the sixties or a Cadillac of the seventies. And you can see such a hot rod.

Evaluating the performance of the suspension on ideal Finnish tracks is difficult. But the auxiliary security systems work perfectly, warning about cars in blind spots and, especially, about a sharp reduction in the distance to the car in front: for those who like to take a break from the steering wheel for a couple of seconds, this is an indispensable thing. Active cruise control for auto travelers - from the same category.

Volvo treats aggressive driving in a northern balanced way. You expect sharpness from a tight and pleasant-to-grip steering wheel, but on the contrary, you get a smooth regularity - responses to the steering wheel with a palpable pause. In turns, the car rolls uncritically, but keeps the trajectory clearly. In general, the family creed is Scandinavian calm and security.

The excellent condition of any roads in Finland is a consequence not only of an appropriate approach to their construction and repair, but also of extremely scarce traffic. With the exception of the slightly livelier capital of Helsinki, life in the country is like a sleepy realm. The photo shows the center of a large regional city in the middle of the day on Saturday - no people, no cars.

The assessment of off-road abilities began back in St. Petersburg, when I had to “jump” along the curbs - here, for a 20-centimeter clearance, you immediately want to shake hands. Trying to get out of the mud puddle up the hill already required some effort - electronic imitations that transfer the moment along the wheels work, but not very quickly. When you need to be careful rear wheels they are connected with a pause, and even manage to slip into a slip before the blocking electronics are triggered. As a result, the assault has to be repeated.

But on Finnish primers and rural bumpy paths - yes, there are some here! - V60 Cross Country is worn with complete comfort, saving everyone sitting in the car from small grader ripples and rustic potholes.

The famous strawberry farms in Finland are part of the life of our citizens, in particular young people who every summer go to work harvesting. The work is painstaking, and the pay is not very high (about 50 euros per day of work, excluding meals), although now with the new euro exchange rate it’s working out pretty well. The most interesting thing is that, despite the northern latitudes, strawberries in Finland will ripen almost until September, although, of course, the season ends in July.

What is the bottom line?

In general, the functionality of the Volvo V60 Cross Country is not much inferior to a regular crossover. The Swedish station wagon only fails in size - the car is really cramped for a family. But for a childless couple who do not regret carrying extra air and kilograms of metal - it turns out just right.

Why is the model so rare on our roads? The answer, alas, turned out to be in the price list - the difference in cost between the stylish V60 off-road station wagon and the more solid and roomy XC60 crossover ... one hundred thousand rubles. And given that the test machine with good list equipment came out at a price of under three million, there is a suspicion that we will see the V60 Cross Country on the roads very soon.

The editors of the magazine "Engine" expresses gratitude to the company "Autobiography", official dealer Volvo in St. Petersburg, for the provided car.

When November 2014 came, the Volvo car company decided to present an off-road unit of the B60 station wagon version at the Los Angeles Motor Show, which acquired the standard “Cross Country” prefix to its name.

April 2015 was a special year for the Russian market, as the car reached us, after which the acceptance of orders started. Many people already know that sometimes on the platform of some of their cars, some companies produce something new.

For example, from the most standard hatchbacks, they produce compact crossovers, from the station wagon version - almost full-fledged SUVs. Therefore, Volvo decided to keep up by releasing a car based on the V60 station wagon. The entire range of Volvo.

Exterior

When the B60 station wagon was just released, a large number of specialized media, along with critics and experts, considered it one of the most stylish and attractive in its category. And it's a well-deserved high score.

Therefore, the Swedish specialists only have to take a good foundation and make every effort not to spoil it in the process of restructuring into a crossover. To our joy, they all turned out well and soundly.

Volvo V60 Cross Country

Yes, the car has retained the presence of elegance, dynamics of lines, a swift image, however, it has received new body elements that make you look at the car in a new way. The bow is decorated with a wide mouth of a false radiator grille with a mesh, the shape of which resembles a honeycomb.

The traditional nameplate of the company from Sweden remained in its place. Engineers equipped the car with large head optics, bi-xenon and LED filling, which brings its charm to the appearance of the car, a long powerful hood that successfully connects to a no less massive bumper installed in front and is complemented by aerodynamic elements, as well as sections for foglight strips, which were made of LED lamps.

Volvo V60 Cross Country side view

Generally speaking, the front of the Volvo V60 Cross Country looks very cool and even bold. Embossed stampings can be seen on the hood. The side part looks elegant. There is a continuation of the adaptation of the car to the features of a small SUV.

This is noticeable in body kits, plastic protection of the edges of the wheel arches, large alloy wheels, the size of which can be 18 and 19 inches. There is also the presence of large doors, high glazing, powerful housings for external rear-view mirrors, LED turn signal indicators, an impressive roof and other things, which actually makes it possible to evaluate the Volvo V60 Cross Country not as a station wagon, but as almost a real crossover.

Volvo V60 Cross Country rear view

The back of the car has a large convenient door luggage compartment, chrome elements, a beautifully executed exhaust system and protection that allows you to calmly overcome even difficult sections of the road.

To be honest, the aft part of Volvo makes it possible to find a lot in common not only with the station wagon version, on the platform of which the Cross Country was designed, but also with the C60 sedan version, which the company also decided to rebuild into a sedan with an SUV, producing the C60 Cross Country version.

Volvo V60 Cross Country front view

The car creates a feeling of a very stylish and somewhat sophisticated crossover. This is not a classic SUV designed for frequent off-road driving and broken roads of our country. Despite the fact that he purchased body kits, plastic door sills, as well as a slightly lowered plastic edge on the front bumper, this is only for decorative purposes.

Volvo V60 Cross Country car

Such protection will not be able to have a practical effect, however, with the help of an impressive ground clearance, the lower part of the car will be preserved. Remained unchanged, except perhaps the large red and white rear lights which were created in the corporate style.

The latter also touch the rear walls of the body. The black plastic bumper has a decorative brushed metal strip.

Dimensions

The novelty of Swiss automotive production is presented in such overall dimensions: in length, the station wagon is 4,638 mm, in width 1,899 mm, in height 1,545 mm, the wheelbase is 2,774 mm.

The height of the ground clearance turned out to be solid, as much as 201 mm, which will greatly please the domestic motorists of our country. The wagon version had only a modest 136mm of ground clearance. The curb weight of the machine is from 1 712 0 1 836 kg.

Interior

Interior off-road vehicle Cross Country fully copies the existing one in the B60 model, where everything looks simple, stylish, functional and expensive. When you get inside the machine for the first time, you reluctantly highlight the excellent quality of any details, buttons and stitches.

The materials used for the finishes are simply beautiful. If there is plastic, it is soft even where competitors use cheaper, harder ones. They fitted the parts just perfectly, the gaps between the joints are the smallest, and any button not only looks expensive, but is also pressed with a “family” pleasant effort.

Volvo V60 Cross Country interior

The panel installed in front was made in a minimalist style, which is slightly diluted with a unique “floating” console installed in the center. Dashboard is configured and changed according to the mood, and all the displayed information is read at lightning speed, with the help of which the driver is not distracted for a long time from driving on the road.

The seats installed in front can be confidently called exemplary, because they have the optimal ratio of density, girth and softness. There is good lateral support that can keep a person in the optimal position when entering sharp turns at high speed.

Interior photo of Volvo V60 Cross Country

Any person can fit behind the steering wheel of a car without any special problems, no matter what equipment and height they have. This was achieved thanks to a large number of settings for the seats and steering wheel. The steering wheel itself has optimal diameter and has a slightly convex section, which makes it feel like the steering wheel is "poured".

The rear-mounted seats are not without comfort and provide the opportunity to comfortably seat three people, but there is not much free space in the Volvo B60 Cross Country station wagon. And the transmission tunnel passing through the floor will cause discomfort to the passenger sitting in the center.

Luggage compartment Volvo V60 Cross Country

The luggage compartment is not a record, but provides about 430 liters of usable space. However, that's not all, if necessary, you can increase the amount of usable space by folding the backs rear seats, which are not divided into a couple, but into 3 sections, which causes a separate feeling of gratitude.

Therefore, in order to transport a long vehicle, it is not necessary to disembark all passengers. It's nice that the car has decorative trim elements such as wood and polished metal.

Specifications

Swedish made car cross-country ability comes with two diesels and a single gasoline engines. The base variation is considered a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged diesel that develops 150 horsepower at 4250 rpm.

More powerful units come in the form of a 5-cylinder turbocharged 2.4-liter engine that produces about 190 horsepower at 4,000 rpm.

The most powerful installation is a gasoline 5-cylinder 2.5-liter turbocharged engine, which has direct injection. It accelerates to 249 horses at 5,400 rpm.

All power units versions of the B60 Cross Country, from Volvo, are synchronized with a non-alternative automatic 6 and 8-speed gearbox, which, together with the base 2.0-liter version, transmits torque to the front wheels, and all the "senior" ones to two axles, since there there is already an all-wheel drive transmission with a Haldex clutch, which is located in the rear axle.

On the technical side, the SUV is unified with a simple Volvo B60, where the Ford EUCD architecture is present. There you can find availability independent suspensions"round".

The steering of the car is carried out by means of an electric power steering. Brake system appears to be the presence of full disc brakes, which are complemented by the option of ventilation on the front wheels.

Safety

It's no secret that safety is absolutely the main "chip" of all Volvo cars, which Swedish specialists and engineering staff devote the largest number of hours to.

Therefore, the Cross Country station wagon has an IntelliSafe system, which is designed to protect not only those who are sitting in the car itself, but also those who are outside it. Among this, we can highlight the presence of automatic detection of pedestrians and motorists.

IntelliSafe system

Separately, I would like to say about the CitySafety system, which is able to prevent collisions with other cars when driving at speeds not exceeding 50 km / h. In addition, the car uses driver tracking services, monitors blind spots and can warn the driver about moving cars in an intersecting direction.

CitySafety system

This allows you to more reliably get out of a tight parking space, even if the driver is as limited as possible in the review. It is already familiar that the brand new Volvo V60 Cross Country comes with a stabilization system, anti-lock, exchange rate stability, seat belts with pretensioners, and ISOFIX child restraints.

What is Cross Country? This is a "package" that increases the ground clearance of a regular Volvo V60 station wagon by 65 mm (up to 196 mm), expands the palette of varnishes and options for rims. In addition, it includes reinforced suspension elements (borrowed from the XC70), underbody protection (front and rear) and modified bumpers. That is, everything that turns an ordinary station wagon into a classic crossover.

Volvo V60 Cross Country on 19-inch matt black wheels BOR INSCRIPTION DC (option for 84,000 rubles) looks even more aesthetically pleasing. But what is pleasing to the eye will not allow you to revel on dirt roads. But fashionable wheels give the station wagon exclusivity. The dark bronze metallic TWILIGHT BRONZE (50,500 rubles), as well as the tinting of the windows of the rear doors and the luggage compartment (16,700 rubles) ensures that the V60 looks like a premium as much as possible. What's inside?

The driver sits higher in the V60 Cross Country than in a conventional station wagon, but not high enough to feel like a real SUV. The calibrated profile of the very comfortable sports seats, sheathed in leather (83,700 rubles, including the black ceiling), allows you to conquer turns at speeds that significantly exceed the limits set by the rules. The range of adjustment will keep you from going as low as in a conventional V60. You don't want to take your hands off the meaty steering wheel. True, the paddles behind it for manual gear selection (12,500 rubles) most likely mean that you will not use them too often.

Time has left its mark on Swedish minimalism. Fortunately, the quality of materials can not find fault. Things are much worse with multimedia. It lacks a trendy touch screen that would be useful in managing navigation (41,500 rubles). Instead, you have to turn the knobs. Not the best way things are with the performance of the navigator - loading routes takes too much time.

In matters of practicality, the Volvo V60 Cross Country seems to be much better, although it is inferior to its main competitors. There is plenty of head and leg room for passengers sitting in the back, but the Audi A4 Allroad and Volkswagen Passat Alltrack have even more room due to the longer wheelbase.

The "Swede" loses to the "Germans" in the capacity of the trunk. Volvo is content with a modest 430 liters for the class, while the A4 Allroad offers 490 liters and the Passat Alltrack 650 liters. increased ground clearance entailed a lower loading threshold. The disadvantage is compensated by the rear sofa, which folds in one motion and forms a flat surface with the trunk floor.

Enjoying the admiration of passers-by and rear passengers it's time to hit the road. But first, you should choose one of the three themes of the graphical instrument panel (35,300 rubles). Let's settle on a blood red shade. And although it does not affect driving performance in any way, it perfectly matches the sporty spirit of the front seats. True, against this background, an unpleasant contrast is made by the loud noise of a 5-cylinder turbodiesel and vibrations on the steering wheel. Fortunately, at high speeds, the engine makes more pleasant sounds and practically does not give out belonging to a diesel engine.

Leaving the parking lot, you have to peer in surprise at the image on the screen from the rear view camera (36,300 rubles). The picture does not convey the real situation behind the car at all. Judging by the mirrors, there is still a lot of space, but the camera says otherwise. Thankfully, the parking sensors aren't overly active. Maneuvering in the parking lot is somewhat complicated by a heavy steering wheel, but when active driving such settings are preferred.

The suspension of the Volvo V60 Cross Country easily swallows "bumps" without making any unpleasant sounds. The only thing that makes itself felt - 19-inch wheel disks. The journey is brightened up by great music from the speakers of the optional PREMIUM SOUND audio system from Harman Kardon (126,400 rubles). It effectively muffles the loud operation of the engine at low speeds.

In the cabin, it gets even louder when the gas pedal is fully pressed to the floor. But this is a completely different kind of noise. The dynamic D4 turbodiesel sounds like a thoroughbred petrol aspirator. It is a pity that only 4-cylinder units will soon remain in Volvo.

A brief moment of oblivion, and fuel consumption begins to increase rapidly. The average result during the test was 9.4 liters. It should be noted that 85 percent of the time the car moved in the city. Paired with a diesel engine is a 6-speed automatic transmission Geartronic gears. The automatic switch gears too late even in a calm environment. When overtaking a gear change, you have to wait an incredibly long time. The problem is solved by switching to manual control mode - the box quickly responds to pressing the petals.

Volvo V60 Cross Coyntry allows you to feel confident in any conditions. This is the merit of not only the suspension, all-wheel drive and steering systems, but a number of systems that ensure safety. The active safety package (122,800 rubles), which includes a blind spot monitoring system, a driver fatigue monitoring system and adaptive cruise control, warns of cars in the dead zone and when approaching too quickly with the one in front vehicle. The system can also recognize pedestrians who intend to cross the trajectory of the car. A blinking LED increases alertness, but is active unnecessarily. For example, when a pedestrian is moving in a parallel course along the sidewalk, and, most likely, is not going to throw himself under the wheels. Fortunately, mistakes happen very rarely, and excessive alertness does not hurt anyone.

Gorgeous 19" wheels wrapped in standard tires, do not cause a great desire to climb into impassable mud. The "symbolic passage" on the sand showed that in a difficult situation, the all-wheel drive system provides timely assistance. However, even moderate off-road is not about Cross Country. First of all, his job is to look good. And Volvo copes with this task with dignity.

The Volvo V60 Cross Country is a car full of contradictions that wants to be all in one. As an all-rounder, he has mediocre capabilities, as rivals are capable of more. The heavy steering is in perfect harmony with the thoroughbred sound of the engine at high revs, but the characteristic noise of the engine at low revs and the high driving position stop all attempts to hint at "sportiness". This is a very strange mixture in a very elegant package. Despite its shortcomings, the V60 Cross Country evokes fond memories for a long time to come.
